3 magical ingredients for dry winter skin

As the humidity outside drops and the cold weather starts settling in, we know it’s winter time rolling around. As we all enjoy sitting inside staying warm and watching a good movie, the heaters we have on combined with the dry air outside causes our skin to become surrounded by dry environments. Unfortunately this is not good news for our skin, and causes our skin shield to dry out and open up. Flaky, itchy, scratchable and red skin starts to show up and we find ourselves looking for solutions to solve this everyday issues. The good news is that there are some wonderful ways to minimize and get rid of all our winter skin woes.

 

Jojoba oil.

Jojoba oil comes from the seed of jojoba, a shrub native to Central America. This magical oil has multiple beauty virtues: it is nourishing, rebalancing and regenerating at the same time. Jojoba’s oil making is the closest to the human skin oil production called ‘sebum’ and therefore makes it an excellent natural moisturizer for ur skin. When our skin becomes dry and flaky, this oil is a great addition to help our skin barrier regenerate. As jojoba oil is light in texture it is great for all skin types and doesn’t leave us feeling heavy after applying it.
How to use this magical oil?
As a night mask apply 5 drops to the face and massage gently. Wash off gently in the morning. For a more intense treatment, add few drops of the oil to your daily moisturizer or serum and keep this up for 10 days for glowing nourished skin!
Vegetable Glycerin
Glycerin and more precisely vegetable glycerin is a key ingredient found in moisturizers, foundations, shampoos, conditioners yet has kept a low image in the beauty industry. Glycerin is natural compound made from vegetable oils and is known as a humectant. Humectants have the ability to retain water making them an excellent cure for dry winter skin. On the skin, glycerin ensures the maintenance of the hydrous balance, strengthens the cutaneous barrier and helps to eliminate dead cells. Miscible with water and alcohol, glycerin is easily incorporated into DIY skin care recipes.
So how should you use glycerin?

 As a moisturizer :

Mix : 3 tablespoons of rose water with 1 tablespoon of glycerine and add the mixture to a spray bottle. Spray the mixture on the face every morning and evening for best results.

As a face mask:

Mix 1 tablespoon of honey with 1 tablespoon of honey and apply the mixture to the face. Leave the mask on for 20 minutes then wash off gently with warm water. This mask will leave you with flawless and glowing skin after !

Shea butter

Shea butter is extracted from the fruits of the shea tree, which grows only in the wild wooded savannahs of West Africa. Rich in omegas 6 and 9 as well as in vitamins A and E, this butter is essential to your winter skin care routine: it protects, softens and restructures damaged skin.
Shea butter is extremely moisturizing and rumour has it, this was one of Cleopatra’s beauty secrets!
How to use shea butter?
For dry and irritated skin apply a knob of the butter on the entire face morning and evening.

If the skin is inflamed mix a teaspoon of shea butter with 2 drops of lavender oil and apply the mixture to the face. As a night mask, apply a know the shea butter to the entire face 2-3 times a week.
