Purification ceremonies are part of the Native American traditions. These ceremonies were set to cleanse spaces, people and objects from negative spirits and energies. Cleansing your space has been shown to increase well being, help declutter the mind as well as easier connect to our spirituality.
Smudging
- Open the windows to allow the negative energies to leave the house and at the same time let in the positive ones.
- Light the end of the sage bundle with a lighter and let the smoke start to build-up and spread into the air. Walk around the room with the lighted sage and spread the smoke all around : on the walls, under the bed, in the closets etc.
- As the smoke ascends voice out your intentions and wishes so as to allow them to be taken into consideration by our spirit friends. By this point you should already be feeling a change of energy in the room.
- Once you have gone through all the rooms, set the burning sage to rest in an abalone shell or any bowl you have on hand. Let the sage continue to burn until it ends. If you would like to extinguish the flame you can put the sage bundle under some running water or crush the ashes in the bowl.
